Castelluccio Valmaggiore, gateway to the Alta Valle del Celone
Castelluccio Valmaggiore is one of the most representative villages of the Alta Valle del Celone, among the towns of the Monti Dauni that still keep a strong bond with the landscape and local history. Walking through its streets you find stone houses, medieval traces and viewpoints overlooking the valley. Visitors to Castelluccio Valmaggiore discover a village where nature, memory and everyday life continue to live side by side, without filters.
The historic centre keeps the layout of a medieval village, with lanes, panoramic views and examples of the old rural architecture of the Monti Dauni. Dominating the village is the Byzantine Tower, the last remaining part of the old castle that watched over the valley. Around it the landscape opens towards the Monte Sidone woods, the Celone stream and the Freddo stream, ideal places for lovers of slow travel, trekking and the walking routes of the Monti Dauni.
The Museo della Valle del Celone tells the story of Castelluccio Valmaggiore and of the communities that have lived on this land, while the Pietralonga geosite reveals its geological history.

Traditions, flavours and culture in the villages of the Monti Dauni
Here the journey also passes through local flavours and traditions. The typical cooking of the Monti Dauni, which reigns supreme here, is in dialogue with the food traditions of Faeto and Celle di San Vito, with peasant recipes, genuine produce and ancient know-how handed down over time. Visiting Castelluccio Valmaggiore means enjoying authentic experiences, crossing its territory along the Via Francigena del Sud and letting yourself be guided by the landscapes, stories and atmospheres that make the Alta Valle del Celone unique.
